CAD ENGINEER

CAD Engineer needed for a Marine manufacturing company located near Knoxville, TN.  This is a contract-to-hire position.  This is a 1st shift position and the starting salary range is $55,000 to $58,000.

Job Description:
The CAD Engineer plays a crucial role in the design and development of prototype marine accessories. This position is responsible for ensuring that products meet customer and corporate standards while managing technical documentation, including drawings, installation instructions, BOMs, test reports, and manufacturing documents. The engineer will collaborate with customers and manufacturing teams to provide technical consulting and implement innovative product and process designs that support the company’s market leadership. Additionally, the role involves project planning, scheduling, and maintaining accurate CAD models that align with customer requirements and cost targets.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Plan and oversee engineering projects to meet customer requirements and cost targets.
  • Develop 3D models and drawings using SolidWorks & PDM VAULT from concept to production.
  • Create design layouts, tolerance studies, and assembly drawings; perform basic engineering calculations.
  • Organize and update technical documents, including Proto Books, BOMs, and ECNs.
  • Ensure designs meet engineering specifications and are easy to manufacture.
  • Help identify and solve design issues.
  • Contribute to design strategy and attend design review meetings.
  • Work with teams from manufacturing and customer service to ensure project success.
  • Maintain and organize CAD files.
  • May lead projects or guide less experienced designers.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

 

Job Qualifications and Skills:

  • Associate’s degree in engineering or equivalent work experience required.
  • 2+ years of Solidworks experience is required.
  • At least 2 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in a technical role.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, including tolerances for fit, function, and interaction with other parts.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and create engineering drawings.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, planning, and organizational skills.
  • Preferred knowledge of manufacturing processes and tooling.
  • Strong customer service skills and ability to collaborate in a team environment.
